OBJECTIVE
Design a new feature—Sentiment—within an early childhood education app called SproutAbout, used by 90K+ daily active users across 1,000+ schools. The goal was to allow legal guardians to rate and comment on their child’s weekly experience, while giving administrators control over survey timing, frequency, and school-level targeting across a national user base.
OUR PROCESS
Stakeholder & Requirements Gathering: Partnered with the product team to align on goals, technical constraints, and key requirements for both administrator and guardian experiences.
UX Research & Competitive Analysis: Reviewed similar feedback mechanisms in other platforms to gather inspiration and evaluate best practices. Conducted user testing with current legal guardians to validate early concepts and ensure usability.
User Flows & Prototyping: Created detailed user flows for both admin and guardian experiences, focusing on flexibility, clarity, and control. Developed interactive prototypes to visualize and iterate on survey setup, scheduling, and feedback review.
Collaboration & Feedback Loops: Held regular design reviews and peer critique sessions to ensure consistency across mobile and desktop platforms. Worked closely with development to understand technical feasibility and prioritize functionality.

DESIGN & DEVELOPMENT
Desktop Admin Interface: Led the design of the administrator-facing desktop experience, enabling high-level users to:
Create and manage weekly sentiment surveys
Specify delivery schedules by district, region, or division
Turn surveys on/off at any level
Edit questions, timing, and visibility
Search and filter by school name or location hierarchy
Mobile Legal Guardian Experience: Provided art direction and feedback for the two mobile experiences designed by team members. Ensured consistent interaction patterns, visual alignment, and tone across all user touchpoints.
Design System Integration: Leveraged the existing design system to ensure UI consistency and reduce development lift. Created new patterns only when necessary, maintaining alignment with brand standards.
QA & Design Fidelity: Participated in detailed QA demos with developers to verify that implemented features matched the approved designs pixel by pixel. Prioritized clarity, accessibility, and maintainability throughout the final interface.

SOLUTION
As the lead designer on the administrator experience, I helped drive the end-to-end strategy, interface design, and usability of the Sentiment feature. I worked closely with designers Morgan Clark and Priyanka Bollapinni, alongside the product team and engineering, to create a scalable feedback tool that empowers educators to receive timely, actionable insights from families. The design supports complex scheduling and targeting logic while remaining intuitive and efficient for school administrators. Weekly results are surfaced in a digestible Power BI dashboard and reinforced via responsive summary emails, keeping stakeholders informed without friction. Through clear UX, thoughtful hierarchy, and seamless integration into the existing platform, Sentiment enhances school-family communication and reinforces the platform’s commitment to meaningful daily connection.

ACCOMPLISHMENTS
Launched in mid-November, the Sentiment feature received over 721 submissions within the first two weeks—demonstrating immediate engagement from legal guardians. The Learning Care Group (LCG) product team recognized the cross-functional efforts of design, development, and QA, highlighting the feature as a key contributor to the organization’s strategic goals and continued success.
